Dr. David Swayne
Director of the Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory U.S. Department of Agriculture
Dr. David Swayne’s research focuses on pathobiology and control of exotic and emerging viral diseases of poultry and other birds, principally highly pathogenic avian influenza. Dr. Swayne received his BS degree in Agriculture from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville-Arkansas (1980); his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master of Science in Veterinary Pathology degrees from the University of Missouri in Columbia – Missouri (1984); and his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Veterinary Pathology from the University of Georgia, Athens – Georgia (1987). He is a diplomate of the veterinary medical specialty boards of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and American College of Poultry Veterinarians.
His expertise in AI pathogenesis and control is recognized nationally and internationally. He consults on avian influenza issues with FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization, United Nations), WHO (World Health Organization, United Nations) and OIE (Office International des Epizooties, World Organization for Animal Health). Dr. Swayne is also the Subject Matter Expert on avian influenza for USDA, Agricultural Research Service.

Dr. Elizabeth Krushinskie
Vice President, Food Safety and Production Programs U.S. Poultry and Egg Association
Dr. Krushinskie is originally from western Minnesota. She earned a DVM degree from Colorado State University, a PhD degree in Veterinary Microbiology from the University of Minnesota, and is board-certified by the American College of Poultry Veterinarians.
Prior to her current position, Dr. Krushinskie held various veterinary and food safety positions with Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation, Broadway, VA, from 1997 to 2004. Dr. Krushinskie has also worked for Wampler Foods, Perdue Farms and Solvay Animal Health and has more than thirteen years of poultry industry experience.

James H. Sumner
President USA Poultry & Egg Export Council
Jim Sumner has been president of the USA Poultry & Egg Export Council since 1990. The non-profit, industry-sponsored trade organization works to increase exports of U.S. poultry and egg food products around the world. Its members account for more than 90 percent of all U.S. poultry and egg exports. The organization is based near Atlanta and maintains offices in 13 foreign countries. In 2005, Sumner was elected as the first president of the International Poultry Council, an organization that brings together for the first time all of the major international poultry countries of the world.
